Are you a big fan of “Sailormoon”, the anime series? Was it how you became interested in Japan? Do you know the names of all the characters and enjoy long discussions with your friends about why your favourite is the best?
Then I have some great news for you! There is a “Sailormoon” novelty cafe in Tokyo currently being featured in an ever-changing themed venue. Located in the entertainment district of Kabukicho in Shinjuku, it is the third time a “Sailormoon” themed cafe has been hosted by this venue, due to its popularity. This time around it will be open until the 28th of September.
When you enter the cafe, which is located right by the Godzilla cinema, you will see tables for two lined up in 3 rows. There are TV screens on the walls showing the series with music on in the background. You can also request a “Sailormoon” song that you’d most like to hear.
In the shop, along with standard file cases, pens, stickers, CDs and DVDs, you will find some interesting items such as, Sailormoon’s magical wand shaped eyeliner or Sailormoon’s transformation brooch, which can also be used as a phone charger. Also there are many original products like phone cases with Sailor warrior characters on them or sweets collections.
The greatest joy you’ll get is definitely from the decoration and design of the cuisine (1000 yen each per main meal) and drinks (700 yen each). All of the meals have a “Sailormoon” theme. Heart and moon shaped cheese and ham on crackers, tuxedo masks with rose pictured, coffee or mango drink with a light sticking out of it are just some examples. Also served are the standard children’s lunch boxes, that characters eat in the anime series itself and it even includes a recipe in Japanese for the kids! There are drinks themed for every Sailor warrior and they change depending on the day of the week. With every meal you get a free lunch mat with a Sailormoon character on it and a free coaster and sweets with every drink you order. If you’re a long time fan of “Sailormoon” you will certainly feel nostalgic in this café.
You can make a reservation for up to 4 people via the website (Japanese) or by telephone, 03-6273-8080 for more than 4 (http://www.namco.co.jp/anion/collabo/). Meals are served in 90 minute sessions. Starting times are 11:30, 13:30, 16:00, 18:00 and 20:00. On Mondays there is an extra session at 22:00. Entrance after 17:00 is restricted to over 18’s. Please bear in mind that if you are late for your scheduled reservation by more than 15 minutes and do not inform the café within this time, your booking will be automatically canceled.
